Holosun HE510C GR – 360° REVIEW

Holosun HE510C GR - 360° REVIEW

Home / Blog / Holosun HE510C GR – 360° REVIEW
Do I like red dots? Do you follow me? If you do you know the answer to that question, I love them. With that said I am very, very particular at what I will actually leave on my guns.
It’s true, I’ll review about anything from the cheapest budget optics to the most expensive high-end stuff. When it comes to what I actually leave on my guns I have a very specific list of things that I’m looking for, for me, I want the following, I want an IPX six or seven waterproof rating, I don’t plan on taking it underwater but I like to have that rating, I want it to be shockproof, I want to know that if I drop my gun that it’s not going to knock the zero, I want quick detach.

Am I going to use it a lot? Sometimes I’ve got iron sight backups, but basically I want to be able to take it off and sometimes I like to move stuff between guns, I also want a solar failsafe, I love having the idea of solar so I don’t have to worry about my batteries dying, I also want the auto off with the motion on or the instant on shake awake. When I’m doing the adjusting I want audible and palpable clicks for the windage and elevation adjustment, I want it tough as nails, if I can I love to have a variety of reticle options from either a dot, circle or circle dot, and that dot must be crisp, clean, with distinct margins, I can’t shoot out to 200 yards with a starburst and have any kind of accuracy.

With this list the options get pretty small and it can really drive up the cost or does it. Does Holosun’s HE510C GR meet all that? There’s only one way to find out.

That worked!

I’m Drew case, welcome to Beyond Seclusion where I only give you my honest opinion and it is what it is. I just narrowed the options by about 90% or more of all the red dots out there. Will Holosun’s HE510C meet all that, let’s just take a look at the specs in tech and see what it’s got on paper.

We’re just gonna do a really fast out-of-the-box for the HE510cC green, typical paperwork, lens cloth, adjustment tool, battery compartment, tools, and the optic, Holosun always has fantastic packaging, and that’s everything in there. Battery compartment is there, so I guess it gave us a spare battery compartment, that’s different, I like that. Love the quick detach here, how does that work, okay, so we push forward here, then it pops out, nice, I didn’t notice there’s head solar, that’s awesome, this is perfect, I can’t wait to give this a try, I have the perfect gun to put this on.

We’ll test the auto on/off, we’ll see how long this takes, and then we’ll see how light of a touch it takes to turn it back on. So, it comes factory set for 10 minutes, 10 minutes goes into sleep mode. We can adjust that to different times, let’s see how little of a touch it takes. That’s awesome! So, we can adjust the sleep mode, we press and hold this for 10 seconds, and then release it, and then we can press this once for 10 minutes, 2 for one hour, 3 for 12 hours or 4 to disable the sleep mode, and then to change the reticles we just simply press and hold the minus for three seconds, that’s just the small red dot, you can’t see, press and hold, now we’ve got a circle with no dot, press and hold, and now we’ve got the circle dot. If you want to toggle between the auto adjust, as in it senses the light and changes the brightness settings for you, you press and hold the positive for 3 seconds and then let go, it’ll flash in here once.

You’re not going to be able to tell because it’s going to remember the last setting, so what you have to do if you want to know, because it simply toggles on and off for the auto adjust, is you’re going to have to once you press that then go from a really dark room out into the sun and if you’re in the auto you’re going to see it, make the adjustment, if you’re in the manual mode it’s going to stay the same.

On paper it meets them all, but all too often what is on paper does not pan out in reality. I am reviewing CMMG’s MK10 Banshee here and it is perfect I think for this optic. I’m including Holosun HM3x so that we can stretch the distance, see how far we can go with a 10 millimeter, can we go 200/300 yards, it’s going to be hard without that magnifier, let’s get this zeroed and put it to the test.  I’m seeing here for the groups, and that’s with the magnifier, we’ll take the magnifier off, and here’s with the magnifier off. That blanking is what they call the refresh rate, but you don’t see that when you’re looking down it, it’s just a solid color, so that’s what we’re seeing without the magnification.

HE510C GR test 2

Let’s check out these groups. I’m really happy with these groups, let’s go take a look. After all the shooting I wanted to see where we were at and, so I was kind of messing with changing the zero and this is with the CCI, and I don’t think that necessarily the zero is off, it’s not that accurate, I mean it’s range ammo, so I’m thinking “Oh, wow, you know, we’re really not getting a very good grouping”, then I threw in the punch, the first punch there, that’s nice, guys, really happy with that.

Real quick here, let’s just see what we’re seeing at 100 yards without magnification. Pretty good! Nice, crisp, clean, circle, and dot, and then we just flick over the magnification. That’s a nice picture, guys, really nice picture. At 100 yards here and see how fast we can get them off on target. 200 yards, that’s what I’m seeing with a magnifier.

Nice!

And without the magnifier!

I really like the HM3x magnifier, it really made reaching out to 300 yards pretty simple. I see that they have a new one, the HM3 XT, which is smaller, lighter, and I think tougher, I hope to get one of these to review, the smaller and lighter the magnifier the better. There we go, that worked well, so far so good, I’m loving it thus far and it was perfect on the MK10, that only leaves us one thing left to do, that’s right, guys, it’s that time!

HE510C GR with the magnifier

Torture time!

It’s good and frozen, we’ll wait for it to thaw out and put it back on, see if it keeps zero, double check everything, make sure there’s no breeches. We took it off, we tortured it, we gave it a good slack and got it back on, it’s thought out back here at the CQB range, we’ll go down there 25 and 50 yards, it should tell us if it kept zero and if it’s working all right.

I think that’s a yes!

There you have it, guys, it is what it is, you decide what you think, I hope you enjoyed the review, found it helpful, if so help support the channel, be sure and hit that subscribe button, it really does help the most. Just got over a hundred thousand subs, I hope for another hundred thousand a lot faster.

Until next time, happy shooting, educate our young people to shooting and gun safety, and remember every time that we’re out shooting everybody’s watching, especially these days everybody’s watching, that makes you and me an ambassador for the Second Amendment, so be a safe and responsible gun owner.
