So, how does feral hog go from this to this, to this? Let’s find out!

Lots of folks these days are really liking the 10-millimeter as a self-defense pistol because of its ballistic and its punch. I love it as a pistol to take camping into Bear Country, it’s basically a 357 Magnum in semi-auto with a magazine. One of my favorite guns to review is PDWs or personal defense weapons or what many are referring to as guns for home defense. Lots of folks want something other than a pistol for home defense thus the PDW. I like the idea of a PDW being a pistol round for many reasons, first and foremost is the close distance in accuracy, but more importantly, guys, I don’t want to be shooting a high-power rifle round through the walls in my house in a situation like that.

The pistol round PDWs I think are the best choice for home defense and for those that may not be able to or like the recoil of the 10 millimeter and a pistol, they’re not going to have any issues with a PDW. What about hunting with a PDW? Heck, yeah! Depending on the caliber you have a light, accurate, easy to get into the tree stand or even a blind or even stocking in thick brush, I mean this sure beats the heck out of a really long bolt action rifle for moving around in thick brush. I always say ‘the proof is in the pudding’ so I wanted to take my CMMG MK10 Banshee and put it to the test.

Oklahoma Hog Hunting

Everyone knows just how tough hogs are, and I just happen to be going hog hunting in Oklahoma with some pistols. Just how tough are hogs?

Now we’re talking, yeah, this is not unusual for hog hunting.

– Drew:  And you see them run, how far was something like this?

– Matt:  I’ve tracked them three, four hundred yards.

– Drew:  Was that a decent shot or was it a crappy shot?

– Matt:  It was not a bad shot.

– Drew:  Yeah, that one, show me, so what you got here, man?

– Matt:  Got a shell that has been spent and the pigs walking along, find it, pick it up in their mouth, and chew on it while they’re walking around.

– Drew:  Spin that around. This is why I chose to shoot a hog, I mean they’re tough, they’re so tough that they pick up shell casings and chew them for fun.

Really tough!

So, this was the perfect opportunity to test out the PDW and stock hogs with it in thick bush.

CMMG Banshee Mk10 10mm Test At The Range

I’m Drew Case, welcome to Beyond Seclusion where I’ll only give you my honest opinion, and it is what it is. Not long ago I received the CMMG MK10 Banshee and 10 millimeter and the accuracy was outstanding at 50 yards, and I had no issues even reaching out to 200 yards, but not necessarily for hunting purposes.

I have actually hunted with Banshees before so I was excited to take the 10 millimeter out, it seemed the perfect gun to take stocking hogs in thick brush.

Federal’s Fusion 10mm Ammo

My number one choice for hunting ammo in the 10 millimeter is Federal’s Fusion 200 grain bonded soft point, it is specifically for hunting but also my choice for self-defense because of the experience that I have with the Fusion line and the ballistics.

Real quick, before we get to hunting, check out and see what you think.

Fusion Handgun features the same molecularly fused bullet construction as its rifle counterparts for the toughness, accuracy, and terminal performance short-barrel hunters need. The load’s bullet weights and velocities have also been optimized to be lethal on deer without punishing the shooter.

• Perfectly uniform jacket

• Skived, pre-programmed nose provides consistent expansion

• Maximum weight retention for deep penetration

I’m just getting my CMMG Banshee the 10mm, I’m using Federal Fusion. I wanted to make sure that the zero was good for the Fusion because that’s not what I was using when I zeroed it, I was using some CCI range ammo. Anyway, let’s go take a quick look at the groups.

That’s 50 yards with the Fusion. I think that’s going to work just fine for hog hunting!

Real quick, I looked at several different options for hog hunting in Oklahoma and I chose No Mercy Hunting Services, I’m going to do a separate review for just them if you’re interested you’re going to want to check them out. And if you do, and you end up going with them, ask for Matt as your guide, you won’t be sorry. I also took two pistols for this hunting trip for stocking in the bush, a 9mm and a 10mm, and the results just might shock you.

Come on, let’s go hunting with the Banshee!

Have you ever heard of Buck Fever? I was not aware of the similar but exponentially more powerful hog fever. When I was getting ready to shoot this is what I was seeing.

My guide was not seeing the same thing and suggested I pass on this one as we were looking for Hogzilla. I could not believe how much it shrunk in that 20 yards that it ran after I shot it.

– Matt:  They look big.

– Drew:  Nope! Dug on it! He’s smaller than the first one that I got! This is why you get a good guide and you listen to them.

This one is going to be much better eating, at least that’s what I’m telling myself. Matt was kind enough to say the same thing.

There you have it, guys, it is what it is, you decide what you think. I hope you enjoyed the review, found it helpful. If so, hit that subscribe button, it really does help the most. Be sure to like and comment.
